News from Claudia

I subscribe to a newsletter from Dr. Frank Shallenberger, M.D. who also has authored two books which I keep close by at all times. Bursting with Energy and The Type 2 Diabetes Breakthrough. The reason I like him so much is the fact that right out of medical school he started learning about alternative/complementary forms of medicine because his patients were not getting better on the drugs his professors told him to prescribe.

This month’s newsletter talked about the value of reducing your blood sugar and insulin levels by simply getting up and moving around for 2 minutes every 1/2 hour of sitting, whether you are studying/reading, watching TV or knitting. Get up and move! Test subjects that did this lowered their insulin levels by 60% and their blood sugar levels by 9% or more. They found that this worked better than going for a 30 minute walk at lunch time!

I tried this recently when working on one of my Power Point computer presentations. I set a timer and got up and moved around every 25 minutes. It really worked! Not only did I remain refreshed, my eyes didn’t fatigue from looking at a computer screen for so long.

Also, the more I read, the more I am finding that the lower your blood sugar and insulin responses are, the better you will feel and the healthier you will be, especially from heart disease, cancer, dementia, strokes, etc.

This research study on 50 prehypertensive women (BP’s-130-140/80-90) went on very 48-72 hours for 10 sessions. One group received a 10-15 minute Swedish massage on the face, neck, shoulders and chest from a licensed massage therapist. The other group relaxed on a massage table for the same period of time. The results: Those who received the massage found their blood pressure was reduced by 9%, while the other group’s BP didn’t change. This works for me!

We have many wonderful massage therapists in Sheboygan County to choose from. Pamper yourself and get a massage!

I have to go for now, but will write again soon.

Stay healthy and remember to get up and move. . .  at least every half hour for 2 minutes!
